CRAFT
MARBLING WORKSHOP
A series of one-day courses will be held by Durban's marbling specialists, Rob and Jacky
Fletcher,
at their studio on the Berea. Participants will be taught the basics of the medieval craft of marbling and gain
hands-on
experience in this unique art form.
The technique involves the floating of paints on a thickened water in a tray which are then
swirled
in a pattern which is transferred to fabric or paper or wood. Each pattern is unique and cannot be
duplicated. The
technique is simple to learn and since it produces immediate results, it appeals to all ages.
Rob and Jacky Fletcher have developed their own special marbling paints and have perfected
the
application of this skill to everything from cotton fabric and paper to cork coasters, leather hair slides,
ceramic
butterflies and takkies.
BOOK
Rob and Jacky have written a compre-hensive and well-presented book on their kit and
marbling
technique which can be used as a reference after the workshop.
Beginners workshops will be held on October 19 and 23 as well as November 2 and 6.
