DANCE
YOUTH DANCE
The dance programme, Reachout '96, will be performed by the Youth Dance
Performance Project on August 16 and 17 in the Playhouse Opera. Dancers will be drawn from dance classes held
at the Playhouse and schools and communities involved throughout the year in the Reachout dance
programme.
The programme, which has in the past been co-ordinated by British choreo-grapher Royston
Muldoom, this year will be created by Playhouse Dance Company members.
SHORT
This year, the programme has been opened up to past Reachout performers. The
first part deals with a selection of short pieces, including an item on AIDS and a techno-version of a section of Carl
Orff's Carmina Burana.
The second part of the programme is set to the music of Tchaikovsky's ballet, The
Nutcracker, altering the original story. In this version, young Clara is given a book which is stolen by the
Rat King. Her adventures take her to different lands, providing opportunities for the interpretation of the various
nationality dances.
