THE ART OF NAZARETH
The BAT Centre is playing host to works by Dominic Sthokosa Cele, an artist and follower of I M
Shembe and the Nazareth Baptist Church.
The exhibition features a selection of paintings and prints inspired by Shembe and the Nazareth
Church. These high-light and illustrate a variety of events, human studies and statements about the work done by these
religious bodies in striving for peace in KZN.
AWARENESS
"The aim of the exhibition is to bring to the awareness of the public the work of IM Shembe, as well
as to encourage the public to embrace peace and a way of life that would be acceptable to us all," says Cele.
"I would like young people to visit the exhibition and be motivated to work hard, learn to be
independent and assume a righteous way of life. I want to encourage young people, through my work, to take up the
challenge of being educated"
ME & MY CONSCIENCE
Me and My Conscience
is the title of Sfiso Mkame's exhibition of oil pastels on
handmade paper running until May 12 in the Upstairs Gallery at the BAT Centre.
ART ALFRESCO

BRUCE MORTIMER
A collection of landscape photographs by Bruce Mortimer is on show at the Spookhouse until May
8.
British-born Bruce grew up in Aman-zimtoti and gained a first class honours degree in engineering
geology at the University of Natal in Durban.
He lectured at the university and later worked as a geologist at Sishen Iron Ore Mine before becoming
a self-employed landscape photographer in 1995.
"Working as a landscape photographer is really the ultimate combination of all my interests" says
Bruce, "linking crea-tivity and expression, a love of land-scape (and the science of geology), and a love of travel.
I have a fascination with business and marketing. I love creating practical items which contribute towards the
photography indirectly; frames, easels, specialised equipment."
TRADITIONAL
Bruce Mortimer's photographs are not traditional landscapes but tend to reflect small parts of
landscape, allowing the viewer the benefit of their own imagination.
