Kwasuka Sukela Arts Centre |
EDITORIALAs the various arts disciplines flex their 1996 muscles there seems to be a burgeoning of exciting projects which can only benefit arts communities. First of all, there's the new KwaSuka Sukela Arts Centre, brainchild of Professor Pieter Scholtz. The Durban City Orchestra performs at the BAT Centre, a sign of the new and positive relationship between Durban Arts and BAT. And there's news of the RainBat project Entries are invited for the NSA's last exhibition in its current premises. At the Durban Art Gallery, there's the best of local art in Jabulisa - The Art of KwaZulu-Natal and a memorial exhibition to "Chickenman" Mkhize at the Tatham in Pietermaritzburg Planning is underway for the 1996 National Creative Arts Youth Festival as well as the Point Easter Festival. Top designers make a foray into the dance world, a Durban writer wins a top TV film award and the Monument Theatre in Grahamstown will have a new look by this year's National Arts Festival. Film buffs will eagerly await the release of The Making of a Mahatma and we sadly say farewell to one of South Africa's finest contemporary poets, Douglas Livingstone |
