"Crucifixion" by Sizakele Mchunu (1988) - one of the colour photographs from the book | JO'S BOOKFounder of the African Art Centre Jo Thorpe was recently honoured with a retrospective exhibition of her own paintings at the Durban Art Gallery. This coincided with the launch of her book It's never too Early recording the history of the African Art Centre. The book features comprehensive articles on the many black artists Jo encouraged and supported during her time with the Centre, a large number of whom have attained respected positions in the arts world. There are some superb colour plates and this is a publication nobody interested in the growth of black artists in KZN should be without. |
