SLEEPING BEAUTY

Beauty is far from asleep in the Playhouse Cellar. In fact, in the form of Karen Wood, she's young, nubile and rarin' to go. She can also sing pretty well and, backed by Patrick Hyland's hilarious script and a zany cast, she's given much license in this (definitely adult) pantomime send-up.

Patrick Hyland, who also appears in the show as the court jester, can notch up another success to rival Sinderella! and Aladdin (both Cellar shows).

Norraine Swanby displays her conside-rable vocal power and sense of fun as a Germanic sex-starved nurse while David Hieron as the good witch Prozac is deli-ciously outrageous in extraordinary out-fits in varying shades of pink!

Heather Barclay-Whiffin's impressive stature and ability to keep her cool as Prince Viagra stands her in good stead opposite Anthony Stonier's scene-stealing performance as the evil witch Valium!

Tickets R88 (R65 for Sunday shows) include a three-course meal. The Friday cocktail shows are R30 (no meal).

HISTORY REPEATING

A tribute to the 60s featuring Marijuana & the Grassheads titled History Repeating runs at El Guappo Restaurant in Westville on Mondays and Wednes-days until the end of December.

The cast includes Jane Candow on vocals, Paul Candow on lead guitar as well as backing vocals and Greg Taylor on vocals and acoustic guitar.

Marijuana & the Grassheads maintain they're a 90s retro band stuck in the 60s. They take a stroll through the era using historical references as well as fashion trivia etc and, in the process, uncover some interesting parallels between the 60's and 90's.

The show features music made famous by artists such as Dusty Springfield, Pet Clarke, Roy Orbison, the Beatles and The Stones. It invites audience partici-pation and should appeal to a wide audience. Tickets at R80 pp.

To book phone 267-0424.

LIVE FROM AMERICA

Tickets at R50 include dinner. To book, contact Bev Wishart on 266-0970 (o/h) or fax 266-0967.

NEW VENUE

Mucho More Tequila, a reworked and re-packaged version of Themi Venturas's smash hit of all things hysterically Hispanic and lusciously Latin, Cantina Tequila, runs at the Glenwood Old Boys' Club from December 1.

Sticking to the same successful formula as the original, Mucho More Tequila again features virtuoso guitarist Demi Fernandez who joins Themi on guitar (jointly called "Los Hooligans"!) with the talents of Clinton Philander, Dean Bennewith, Arnie Field, Percy Smith, Janice Lurie and Denya Maslen. Nightly guests are dancers from the Linda Vargas School of Spanish Dancing.

Meals will be prepared by the resident caterers of the Old Boys' Club.

Shows are Tuesday to Saturday. To booking contact Themi Venturas Pro-ductions on 21-9242 (o/h).
