MEMBERSHIP GOES UP!Much as we hate to do it, it has become necessary to increase the membership fees of Durban Arts. Membership has remained unaltered for more than eight years but this is now impacting seriously on the production costs of the magazine. With the steady increase in postal rates over the past few years membership fees barely cover the distribution costs of D'ARTS. It now costs close on R1,70 to post one magazine so the postage alone of a full member's annual supply of 11 magazines is R18.70. This doesn't include the cost of envelopes or labels. It is also important to take into consi-deration the fact that the fee for founder members, senior citizens and students is only R9,12. From January 1, the fees for full members will be increased to R25,08 (R22 plus VAT). The fees for senior citizens and students will become R13,68 (R12,00 plus VAT). Founder members, those who signed the register at the formation of the Durban Arts Club (as it was then) at the Caister Hotel in 1984, fall into the latter category. GOOD NEWS The good news is that existing members can renew now at the old rate because the new fee only comes into effect on January 1, 1999. So, get your member-ship subscription in quickly before January 1 so that you can enjoy D'ARTS at the old rate! Don't forget, DAA membership makes a wonderful Christmas present. What else can you buy for R17,10 that lasts the whole year through?. NB: Our thanks to those generous members who have recognised what a bargain they're getting and have added donations to their membership fees.
