SLEEPING BEAUTY

Sleeping Beauty - not to be confused with a children's show seen at the Eliza-beth Sneddon Theatre recently - opens in the Playhouse Cellar on October 8. This, very definitely adult, production is des-cribed as a "bodice-ripping, angst-ridden potboiler of panto".

Scripting is by Patrick Hyland who was also responsible for previous Cellar sell-out successes Sinderella! and Aladdin. The producers are Eric Hutton and Evan Roberts who also wrote the original music and lyrics. Direction will be by Peter Court. The cast includes stalwarts of this pantomime send-up genre Norraine Swanby, Anthony Stonier, David Hierons, Heather Barclay-Whiffin and Greg King who will be joined by Karen Woods for this production.

Shows every night except Monday, with two performances on Fridays and lunch-time shows on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

MONTY GOES ON

Not the Full Monty, the highly success-ful musical revue, presented by the Geejays and which played to full houses at El Guappo Restaurant in Westville earlier this year, will run at the Langoustine by the Sea in Durban North from October 5 to 8.

Gary McKenzie, Grant Bell and John Didlick perform a fun "spoof" on ump-teen well-known numbers such as Greased Lightning, Calendar Girl, New York and Under the Broadwalk whilst many are presented in a slightly different light as they "take the mickey".

A three-course meal is included in the ticket price of R80 and dinner is served before the show at 19h00. To book phone the Langoustine on 83-7324.

POETRY READING

Pietermaritzburg poets Kobus Moolman and Alison Lockhart will read a selec-tion of their work at Bean-Bag Bohemia Restaurant on October 5.

Both writers are well-known in Pieter-maritzburg poetry circles. Kobus has just been awarded the Helen Martins Fellowship which allows him to spend a month at Athol Fugard's Nieu Bethesda home, working on a new anthology.

The reading, titled Inside Small Places, will start at 19h00. Entrance is R12 and a full a la carte menu is available. To book phone Guy on 309-6019.
