HUB QUILTERS GUILD EFFORT |
A black and white leopard background, colourful letters on a black cloth and small eyes is all that it took to make the Andrew Verster's retrospective exhibition banner. This was done by a group of women who belong to the Hub Quilters Guild - one-time beginners, now highly profi-cient quilters. Hailing from the various township areas, they generally meet on a monthly basis at the Ecumenical Centre to quilt various projects. They have also attended workshops run by the Durban Art Gallery on various subjects and have implemented their knowledge on this project. When the Durban Art Gallery decided to host a retrospective exhibition of Andrew Verster's works, they requested these women to design and make the banner which is made from ethnic printed material, cut squares and appliqued paper. They used paper as a template and then cut the bonded material which they stitched on the fabric. The banner is on view for the duration of the Andrew Verster retrospective exhibition. This runs until September 28. CRAFT 9 |
