VISUAL ART

TELKOM AND THE WEB

Through the accessing network SAIX (the South African Internet Exchange), Telkom will be providing Internet access to more than 1 000 schools countrywide.

Art was the perfect tool to explain this intangible yet necessary method of communication in modern society.

Art has been described as making the invisible visible and The Art and Internet project aims to do exactly that. Launched at the Sandton Civic Art Gallery last year, it is travelling to main galleries in Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth where computer areas are set up enabling the public to experiment with Internet.

Telkom created its own home page which included ten artworks and an explanation by each artist of his/her work. This page is at http://www.telkom.co.za/art/.
