DESIGN COURSEThe Midlands Arts and Crafts Society (MACS) is offering a series of design workshops in 1997, aimed at enhancing people's visual awareness. This would be of interest to both active artists and craftspeople and those who simply would like to be more informed and sensitive to the things made by others. All classes will be held at MACS House, 173 Alexandra Road, Pietermaritzburg from February 5. EXPLORE Although the means used to explore the various design elements such as rhythm, contrast, movement, texture and tonal values are those usually associated with the graphic arts, the principals apply equally to anyone who deals with the "visual". They apply to writers, poets and composers or even newspaper editors! Teachers taking part in the MACS pro-gramme are drawn from Pietermaritz-burg and Durban and include well-known practising artists and art teachers. All classes are held on Wednesdays and are offered as four-week blocks and include Discovering Colour, Dabbling with Black & White, Learning to Look, Exploring Tonal Values, Playing with Pattern and Contemplating Composition. If you want to join MACS, they'll be open at MACS House, 173 Alexandra Road, on February 2 from 10h00-16h00. The craft shop and tea garden will also be open. Or phone (0331) 6-6500 (mor-nings) or (0331) 6-8538 (afternoons). |
